Master Bathroom Reveal

After a couple months of keeping it a secret, I am finally sharing our Master Bathroom Reveal! This winter, we decided to tackle another room in our home... the master bathroom. Anticipating that this would simply mean a fresh coat of paint and some new decor, we should have known that like any project, it would turn into so much more than that.

Our painting project quickly turned into staining the cabinets, getting a new mirror, putting in all new hardware, changing out the light fixtures, building shelves, and installing a new toilet. YIKES!

We love the way it all came together, and happily traded in all the purple for some pretty blues. My favorite part? Those shelves! I love them just as much as the ones in my living room :)

Happy Friday Eve!

Half Bathroom: Before

Good Monday Morning, and Happy March!

After two weeks of being "present", without actually being present around here, I am finally on Spring Break for the week. I am hoping to catch up on things around the blog and create some awesome content in case things get crazy, because let's face it... they will!
Confession: I had over 1,000 unread posts in my bloglovin' feed last night and hit that "mark all as read" button real quick.

Anyways, today I am sharing with you all the BEFORE pictures of our little half bathroom off the kitchen and laundry room. And trust me, when I say little, I mean little.

When we first moved into our home (over two and a half years ago now) I didn't think this bathroom was too bad. While I wasn't in love with the wallpaper by any means, I figured it had a bathroom theme and was cute enough for our little half bathroom that is basically hidden anyways. This winter, Adam was determined to get that wallpaper down., which ended up being much easier than either of us had anticipated.

Let me just say, after giving the room a fresh coat of paint and a little updating, I am pretty embarrassed to look back at these pictures and admit that I didn't think it was that bad.

I can't wait to show you what we've come up with, although there are still quite a few things that need to be done before the room is anywhere near finished.

What big house projects are you working on this winter?

Make Your Own Towel Hooks

I have been looking for fun towel hooks since the day we moved in. Our bathroom has one tiny hook on the back of the door, and that is it. When I came across these fun hooks at Home Depot, I knew I would just have to create my vision myself since I couldn't find it anywhere I looked.

what you'll need:
1x3's (or desired width), gorilla wood glue, wood stain, hooks of your choice

The first step in this project is deciding how big you want your towel rack to be and cutting the wood accordingly. We cut 6-1x3's to be 36 inches long. We then glued them together offsetting the edges for a unique look. After the glue had dried, we were able to stain the wood to our liking, and finally add the hooks once the stain was dry.

I love the way our towel hooks turned out! They look great in our bathroom and even match the wood framed mirror we made a while back. Not to mention, they are much more functional than the tiny hook on the back of the door!

Happy Monday!

Tutorial: Wood Framed Mirror

Last weekend, my mom called me up and insisted we make these mirrors she saw on the Shanty-2-Chic blog. I'm always up for anything, so all I had to do was convince Adam (and my dad) to help us cut the wood.

what you will need:
mirror (walmart has them for $5), 2- 1x4's, gorilla wood glue, staple gun, liquid nails, wood stain

I was slacking and didn't take any pictures, so I will do my best to describe the process.

We started by removing the plastic frame from the mirror. To start, remove the paper backing off the mirror and cut the glue. To avoid cracking the mirror (yes we know from experience) pull the plastic away from the mirror after the paper backing and glue is removed.

The next step is cutting the wood. Each mirror will vary in size, so your measurements may vary.
2- 52"
2- 16"
(both measurements are at the long points of the wood)

Once the wood was cut, we glued the frame together using gorilla wood glue and reinforced it with the staple gun. When the glue dried, we began to stain. We ended up doing two coats.

The last step was to attach the mirror. We applied liquid nails to the back of the frame on the middle edges. We found it easiest to set the mirror on the frame and trace it before applying the glue so we knew where the glue needed to be. Once the glue was applied, we attached the mirror and gently pressed down on the edges.

My mom used dark walnut wood stain, which I loved
I am seeing another mirror or two in my future with this stain. This would look great in my guest bedroom!

I decided to put our mirror in our bathroom, so I decided on Ebony Minwax stain. It looks great in our bathroom, and will one day actually be hung on the wall.

The best part about this project was that we already had the mirror, stain, and most other supplies. All we needed to purchase was the wood and the liquid nails. This simple and easy project makes me want a mirror in every room of the house. Even Adam loved that he was able to get out the saw and help out.

Have you tried this or plan to try it in the future?
Aren't projects so much more fun when you work on them with others?
