White Is The New Blue

I've got BIG plans for the inside of our home this winter. There are at least three spaces in this house that I am hoping to completely transform by the end of what's expected to be a very long winter.

One of these spaces is the guest bedroom, which I am hoping to entirely redecorate. I haven't decided if we'll paint yet, but what I do know is that a white comforter was an absolute must-have when transforming this room. For that reason, I hopped on the Macy's website determined to find some white bedding to fall in love with. Seeing as I STILL had a pretty decent gift card from our wedding, I thought that would be the smartest place to look first.

Sure enough, I found something I am crazy about and just couldn't wait to show it off!

The white may look a little goofy now, but it shouldn't for long!
I am planning on decorating with lots of blue, yellow, and gray.
Besides the comforter, I also have started collecting pillows and fabrics that I think would match the room. *Spoiler alert, my very first sewn pillow covers may be making an appearance (view pillows here).

I am so excited to get started on this room and show you the progress as I go along!
Now I just need to train Lucy to stay OFF the white comforter altogether, which is proving to be more difficult than I had originally thought. Yikes!

Fall Inspired Fabric Balls

These fabric balls are a great way to use leftover fabric, and after making some orange pillow covers over the weekend, leftover fabric I had. I used the orange fabric from the pillows and threw in some blue and grey as well. Because of the navy and light blue that I already have in my living room, I am trying to incorporate those into my Fall decor this year. So far, I am loving the way the oranges and blues look together.

To get the full tutorial on how to make these adorable fabric balls, you can check out my St. Patrick's Day post from a while back (here). While I was way less than exact with my measuring and cutting this time around, I still think they turned out pretty darn cute.

I am hoping to have all my Fall decorating done by next week to show you a mini Fall home tour. :::fingers crossed:::

Happy Friday!!

Are You A No-Reply Blogger?

Every blogger loves when people comment on their posts, and I am no exception. I love hearing from my readers, and I love responding to their comments. Unfortunately, more often than not, I am unable to reply to my commenters because of them being a "no-reply blogger." It seriously bums me out.

If you are a no-reply blogger, you are missing out on so many opportunities to connect and get to know other bloggers. The good news is, there is an easy fix!

First, you need to figure out if you ARE a no-reply blogger.
Go to the top, right corner of your blogger dashboard and click the arrow to view the drop down menu. If you do NOT see the blogger icon next to the link to your blogger profile, you are in fact a no-reply blogger.

Here's what you can do to fix the problem:

Click on the link to view your blogger profile and then click "Edit Profile" in the top right corner.

The box next to "show my email address" should be checked.

And just like that, you have fixed your no-reply blogger status.

You should start to notice that you are getting many more replies to the comments you are leaving on other blogs, and hopefully you can form more connections with other bloggers.

And I know I will greatly appreciate being able to reply to you comments :)

The Man Behind The Blog

My husband is a huge part of this blog! Although his job is more behind the scenes, Adam is my biggest supporter and go-to builder. Today, I'm giving him a moment in the spotlight to answer some blog-related questions.

So, without further adieu, I would like to introduce you to my husband.

What is the name of my blog?
Your blog is, I mean, but the name is Melanie Gets Married. I know your blog.

What was your first thought when I told you I was going to start a blog?
...long pause... "ahh crap, more craft projects!"

How often do you read my blog?
3-4 times a week

What do I typically write about?
Craft projects, OR recipes.

How much time do I spend blogging in an average week?
Ha, a lot... I don't know, a couple hours. I thought this was suppose to be a about me?

What do you like to do while I am blogging?
Play video games or watch football.

What are some of your favorite posts I have written?
Hmmm.... that's a hard one. Anyone where I am mentioned. No don't say that, that's rude. But I know you will put it anyways. Ummm... whenever we gets to build things. I like reading about when we build things.

Any projects you would like to take credit for?
:::Laughs::: Where do I begin? I'm just kidding. I don't think I wouldn't take credit for any of them. I helped you with a lot of them, but I would not take full credit for any of them.

What is your favorite part about being married to a blogger?
The projects. I don't know, the projects add to our house. You do the hard work coming up with the ideas, I just help you execute them.

What is your least favorite part about being married to a blogger?
Starts saying something sappy... and tells me I have to quote him.
Finishes with: I don't think there is one. It's your hobby.

Are you ever going to let me feature you on the blog again?

Anything else you would like to add?
Are there more questions after this? Add in there I got something to say, people need to hear it.

I hope to follow this post up with a few more Man Behind the Blog posts in the future, if Adam will allow it. I hope you enjoyed hearing from him!

Gold Ribbon Wreath

Why yes, I did make another wreath! You didn't think I'd leave that bright summer one up forever did you? Since the weather is acting more like Fall, and it is mid-September, I figured it was time to take down my Fabric Covered End of Summer Wreath. I think the wreath I replaced it with is pretty sweet, too!

I am seriously loving gold right now, just in time for Fall. Give me gold everything and I will be one happy girl. I saw this ribbon at Hobby Lobby on the infamous day I spent an hour in the ribbon aisle. The second I saw it, I snagged it up quick. I knew it would make the perfect wreath!

I love the chevron and polka dots together, and the metallic gold is not too shabby either.

It won't be much longer before I am making a Halloween wreath! At this rate, I might as well make a new wreath every month :)

Fire Up Chips!

This past weekend, we got to spend some time at the old stomping grounds, and it was wonderful.

Adam's work was very generous and gave us some free tickets to the CMU football game this past Saturday! It had been a while since we had been to a game, and had talked about how we just had to make time to go to a game this year. I was beyond excited when Adam called me Monday morning and told me he was getting tickets, it felt like it was Christmas!

We got up very early Saturday morning and headed to Mount Pleasant for tailgating. Although we were somewhat prepared for the chilly weather, I think we all under estimated just how cold, and windy, and cloudy it was Saturday morning. We may have froze our butts off for the first hour or so, but once the sun came out, it was a great day for a football game!

Unfortunately, the Chippewas didn't really agree. Chips lost, 40-3 against Syracuse. Okay... so they got creamed. Although we were hoping for a win (especially after they beat Purdue!) it was still so much fun to be in Mount Pleasant for a football game!

I even got to see these sweet sisters!

After the game, we headed to the book store for some new CMU apparel. I was like a kid in a candy store, I wanted to buy everything! When I was finally dragged out of the book store, we went to The Cabin. I got my Thunderbird and Cabin Sticks, so I was one happy girl!

Our Sunday was much more uneventful. Adam had some real estate stuff to do. Homework, crocheting, and laundry is what my day looked like.

What fun things did you do this weekend?

Top 5 Previous Fall Posts

Fall is finally here, and I am loving it! In honor of my favorite season (don't I say that about all seasons?) I would like to share with you some of my previous fall inspired posts.

This Apple Cider Sangria is such a perfect drink for fall! Mix it up before tailgating, take it to a football party, or sip it at home while cuddled up on the couch! Any way you like it, it's guaranteed to be delicious!

I love burlap and lace together! I made glass hurricanes for our wedding and try to use them any chance I get! Wrap some burlap and lace around them an BOOM! Instant fall candles holders!

Fall is the perfect time for anything pumpkin! I love all the wood projects that have been so popular the past few years, so I thought I'd make some wood pumpkins. I added the polka dots and chevron to give it a little something extra.

Once again, burlap! Nothing screams fall like burlap. I love all bunting and banners, but never feel like I have a good place for them in our home. This was the exception though! I loved the look of the burlap hanging from our shelf in the dinette area.

These glitter pumpkins were the perfect decoration for our coffee table last fall. I like all the different colors and how the glitter just sparkles!

Well there you have it! My top five favorite posts from Falls past. I hope this gave you a little inspiration to start decorating, or at the very least a new drink to try!

Happy Friday friends! We have tickets to the CMU football game tomorrow, so we're heading back to the old aim ping grounds. Fire Up Chips!!

Homemade Garden Salsa

As I mentioned in my recent garden update, I have vegetables coming out my ears! When I planted the garden, my plan was to make homemade salsa with all the fresh vegetables from our garden. I had no idea how many batches of salsa I would be making, but the count is currently up to eight.
Eight batches of salsa, folks!

With those eight batches of salsa, I have had plenty of time to perfect my recipe.
Today, I decided to share my recipe with you, in case you have vegetables coming out your ears too!

4 tomatoes
1/2 cup red onion
1/2  cup green pepper
2 jalapeno peppers
1 teaspoon garlic
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 Tablespoon lime juice
1/2 teaspoon salt
Cilantro and Parsley to taste

***NOTE: I like my salsa pretty spicy so this salsa is pretty hot! If you like yours more mild, I would use only 1 jalapeno pepper and 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes.

1. Place all ingredients in blender and chop,
2. Depending on the consistency you like, you can also use the puree option.
3. Enjoy with tortilla chips or your favorite Mexican dish!

Gold Glitter Ribbon Garland

Football season is here, and finally so is the cooler weather! And since it is finally starting to feel like Fall around here, I felt it was only appropriate to get some of my fall projects going.
Since we stayed at home and watched college football (FIRE UP CHIPS!) all afternoon, evening, and night on Saturday, I had a lot of time work on some things. Mostly, I crocheted (cooler weather=crochet season), but I did manage to squeeze in a few other projects as well.

I found this gold glitter ribbon at Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago. I fell in love and just had to have it. I wish they had a brown though, that would have been the icing on the cake. Anyways, I wasn't quite sure what I was going to do with it when I bought it, but yesterday I decided to make some ribbon garland. I am loving ribbon garland lately, I just can't get enough of it. Such a simple, elegant look and it pretty much looks good anywhere! Who's with me?

I had twine already on hand, so it was a pretty inexpensive project.

I cut each piece of ribbon to be one foot long and knotted it on the twine. Sixty pieces of ribbon later, this is what I ended up with!

So quick, so easy, and such a fun look when it's all finished!
If I did it all over again, I probably would have made my ribbon strips longer to cover more of the mirror. Oh well, there's always next time right?

Who is looking forward to the cooler weather? Has anyone else started getting out their Fall decorations?

Happy Monday!
